The accreditation sector, being an integral part of the quality infrastructure system, has a significant impact on the economic development of the RA. Accreditation is a service representing public interests, which promotes the elimination of technical barriers to trade, to increase consumer confidence in the results of the compliance assessment activities and creates preconditions for the high quality of goods and services entering the market: the Head of the Quality Infrastructure Department of the RA Ministry of Economy Zhanna Zakaryan stated, presenting the package of drafts on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Law on Accreditation and Amending the RA Code on Administrative Offenses at the extraordinary sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs on March 27.

According to the first bill, the Accreditation Committee has been given the right to make a decision on re-accreditation, which will have a beneficial effect on the Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB) , as it will contribute to the reduction of time and financial resources.

The legislative package also proposed to supplement the article Membership of the National Accreditation Body to Regional and International Accreditation Organizations with a new provision, according to which, in case of becoming a signatory to bilateral or multilateral agreements, the National Accreditation Body will recognize the accreditation certificates of the parties that have concluded a bilateral or multilateral agreement with the European Cooperation for Accreditation, the International Cooperation for the Accreditation of Laboratories and the International Accreditation Forum and the results of the CAB s accredited by them. This provision is a mandatory requirement for membership in European and international accreditation organizations.
